Released on a 12" single, this song, which never made it past the semi-finals of the 2006 Belgian selection process, is available in 3 further versions; Acapella, Dave Lambert vs Elektrokid Dub and Housetrap remixes.

    Sonja Alden - A Miracle (English demo)
The long-awaited full English version of Att alska Dig but it's not Shirley Clamp who recorded this but Sonja Alden, who was part of Laura and the Lovers, who finished last in the 2005 semi-final for Lithuania, and who participated in MF in 2006 (semi-finalist) and 2007 (6th).     Aleksandra Pileva - Sonce i mesecina (Original and Remix)
Aleksandra and Martin Vuvic between them sang all eight songs in the FYR Macedonian final in 2005. It was very close at the end of the day and many felt this runner-up should have gone to Kiev. Here are the Original and Remix versions of this song.

    Chiara - Sail away
Shortlisted for the Maltese final in 2005 but withdrawn as, under the rules, no artist was allowed more than one song. Chiara chose Angel, probably quite wisely. This song came from the team who wrote Belgium's entries in 2002 and 2004. You can download the song in .wma format here.

    Luna - No Pidas Mas Amor (Extended)
6th in the Spanish final of 2001. This would later become a hit in Spain when the singer released it under a different name. Download it here.

    Zdravko Colic - Ne dam ti svoju ljubav
Zdravko performed the Yugoslav entry in 1973 but one year later, this Bosnian-born singer would not get past the semi-final. Download the song here. This, and his poor and undeserved low placing in 1973, would not adversely impact his career in the Balkans. It appears he is still going strong today.

    Johnny Logan - How Does It Feel (Composer version)
Johnny came close to representing the Netherlands in 2005 with this composition which finished second in the final. Download his demo version here.

    Baccara - Soy tu Venus (Dirty Hands anthem remix)
Seventies favourites Baccara represented Luxembourg in 1978 and were invited by SVT to participate in the 2004 Melodifestival with this song, which did not get through its semi-final. Download this remix here.

    Ben Cramer - Aan Het Noordzeestrand (Alternative version)
De Oude Muzikant was the Dutch entry in 1973.  This is the same song also sung by Ben, but with totally different lyrics. It is about a pirate radio station, which was popular in Holland in the 1960's and early 1970's. (Radio Veronica). Due to a storm the ship drifted ashore and the government could finally stop this pirate station. This song is a protest song and the title of this song is known as Veronica SOS or Aan het Noordzeestrand. Download it here.

How fabulous is it that the 1973 and 1974 Eurovision previews have finally seen the light of day and how good is it to finally see Dani singing (well, mimiing to!) the French entry of 1974? Before the final songs were even selected for the Spanish final in 2001, many were made available on the internet, either in full or as clips. The only one of these to be selected for the final was this song, which was provided in a clip. The song was released on their 2001 album Corazon.     Esther Hart - Wait for the moment
Esther participated in both the UK and Dutch selections in 2003 going on to represent the Netherlands with One more night. She made it through to the last 4 in the BBC Radio 2 semi-final but ultimately withdrew to focus on the Dutch selection. She was replaced by another singer and the song finished in 4th and last place in the Song for Europe final. Not sure if she ever released this but here is the version made available on the BBC website. If anyone has a better version, please get in touch.

    Stay Tuned - Hvor går man hen med kærlighed
This finished 9th in the 1997 Danish final and was performed by a group featuring Martin Loft, part of the winning duo a year earlier, who narrowly missed qualifying for the final in Oslo. I have this on a promo cd and you can download it here.

    Slavi Trifanov & Sofi Marinova - Lubovta e Otrova (Original & Extended versions)
This did not qualify for the 2006 Bulgarian selection, yet was highly fancied performed by the duo who finished second the year before but caused controversy by refusing to perform their song in the final amidst suggestions that the results were fixed in Kaffe's favour. This song, however, was first reserve but the couple declined to enter their song when another was disqualified, probably in the knowledge that it would not be selected for the final. Download the original and extended versions. Sofi would finish 3rd in the 2007 Bulgarian final.

    Paola del Medico - Fur allen zeiten
Paola twice represented Switzerland in 1969 and 1980. She tried on 2 other occasions in 1968 and 1977, finishing 2nd on both occasions. She also tried to represent Germany in 1979 (3rd) and 1982 (2nd). This is her first attempt which has been difficult to track down. Download it here.

A finalist in the 1993 MF, a year after he represented Sweden and a decade before he bacame one of the most powerful names in Swedish showbusiness in view of his connection with MF since 2002. The instrumental version of this song was released on single on Columbia 659151 1 and here it is.

Submitted to the internal French selection of 1967, this has been traced and is now shared here, thanks to Jeff, Michel-Pierre and Rick showing that collaboration can help to get these rarities out there for all.

    Claude Morgan - L'Habanera
Jeff and Michel-Pierre are currently validating those internal French selection songs from the 1960s and the 1970s and a huge number are surfacing as a result, some of which have already been shared here. This is the genuine pucker song submitted to the internal French final of 1969. We earlier shared a different some of the same name which had nothing to do with eurovision but here's the right one. Claude is a girl and not a fella and represented Belgium in 1968.

    Clodagh Rodgers - In my world of beautiful things (live)
This finished last in the 1971 Song for Europe and it would appear that Clodagh did not commercially release this track. It is known that Clodagh recorded this but it never made the light of day onto any of her albums. Let's hope a CD retrospective will be released including this song. In the meantime, I am pleased to say that a live version has turned up and you can download it here.

    Tony Henry & Ruth Jacott - You And I
A bi-lingual version of Blijf bij mij, which finished 4th in the 1993 Dutch final. This is a live recording from this year, with thanks to Frank from the Netherlands and you can download it here.

    Maja Odzaklijevska - Budi dobar kao sto sam ja
It would seem that in 1996, Serbia-Montenegro held a competition to select its country's first independent entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, unless you count Extra Nena in 1992. FYR Macedonian singer Maja appears to have won this. Zeljko believed it to be Rastanak but was equally sure the song was never destined for eurovision, however Sam believes it is Budi dobar kao sto sam ja. Obviously Serbia-Montenegro did not enter in 1996 in view of the sanctions in place at the time. Maja was also selected to represent her own country in 1995 and did not end up going on that occasion either.  Does this make her the unluckiest eurovision contestant never to be?     Severine - Tu (Italian)
The Italian version of Vien submitted to both the internal French and Monagasque selections in 1971. She would, of course, go on to represent Monaco the very same year and chalk up their one and only victory to date. Previously it was thought that it was Mireille Mathieu's song of the same name that was submitted to the French selection in 1969, however Jeff and Michel Pierre are currently validating sources and it has since been established that Mireille's song was released 3 years earlier. The correct song is one performed by Pascal Danel, which you can download it here.

    Robert Williams - Na kseris s'agapo
In 1978, this was the original choice of the internal selection to represent Greece after having first tied with Anna Vissi's song Kyrios Nobel which lost on countback. My thanks to Apostolos for the song which you can download here. Robert represented Greece in 1977 and returned to the Greek semi-finals in 1998.

    Lizette & Bizazz - I'm in paradise (English)
The English version of Som Om Himlen Brann, which should have won MF that year. As it was it finished just a few votes behind Christer Bjorkman's penultimate placed song in Malmo. You can download the song here.

    Frank Ådahl - Teardrops from Heaven (English)
This was 5th in the MF of 1996 and is the English version of Tårar från himlen. I had but could not track down, however, Pelle has come to the rescue and you can download it here.

    Anne-Marie David - Sil bastan (Turkish)
More of a lost song from 2 years but anyhow. I was greatly surprised to find a Turkish version of Lui on the B-side of a 1975 Turkish single. This was the song which was second choice in the Luxembourg internal final of 1973 and you can download it here.

    Zeljka Katavic-Pilj - Bog mi je svjedok

This is one of Peter, Sue and Marc's many national pre-selection songs. This one came equal 3rd in the 1973 Swiss selection won by Patrick Juvet. You can download the song here.

    Gitte Haenning - Lille Sarte Kvinde
Few things can ever be found missing from the Danish selections over the years, although their initial few years do have some items missing. Gitte represented Germany in 1973 and tried to represent Luxembourg in 1978 with a song we have recently uncovered. She was disqualified from the Danish selection in 1962 with a song which is widely available, yet this 4th placed song from the Danish final of 1963 continues to elude us in a studio version. This artist has such a prolific recording catalogue, surely this exists somewhere? It would seem that there was a plan to release it on a 4 CD back catalogue, however, it only went to 1962 ultimately. A promo has been traced though but it is just a much better copy of her live performance from 1963. You can download it here.

    Liliane St. Pierre - Mélodie
Belgian singer Liliane was 4th in the Luxembourg final of 1978. I recently got hold of this in an on-line auction and you can download it here. Liliane would go on to sing in the Belgian final of 1981 and represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest on home ground in 1987.

    Samuel - Maneira de ser
8th in the 1984 Portuguese final and released, along with another song he sang in the same final, which finished as runner-up. Strangely, the better placed song was the B-side. Download it here.

    Mark Dex - O Clown (Disco version)
Father of Barbara Dex, who partipated in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, this competed in one of the Belgian pre-selections in the 1960s and this recording was made in 1980. I found this lurking in a back drawer and you can download it here.

    Tessa - Ave do paraiso
Finished last in the Portuguese final of 1983 and one that has eluded collectors for quite a long time. Thanks to e-bay this, and a number of others, have seen the light of day. Hear what a last placed song in a Portuguese final is like by downloading here.

    Pat McGeegan - Chance of a lifetime (Disco version)
As unlikely as it may sound, Pat recorded a disco version of his 1968 Irish eurovision song in 1978 and released it on his comeback album Be Nice To Me on Quartz Records (QL001). This is fabulous in its ill thought through conception and you can download it here, complete with crackles. If anyone can put a cleaner version on the Yahoo National Finals Group, I would be grateful.

The Portuguese and the English versions of the song which finished 5th in the 1990 Portuguese final, from a very rare promo single.

    Otto Hænning - Op og se land
Equal 4th in the 1960 Danish final and a song that Charlotte has tracked down, which you can download here. Charlotte is the webmaster of the excellent Hot Eyes site, a good source for eurosongs, and she has recently shared a large number of older Danish national final songs on the National Finals Yahoo Group.

    Anette Blegvad - Melodien kan findes
=3rd in the 1966 Danish final, which marked the beginning of a 12 year absence from the contest. This is one of the rarer tracks available from this final which, thanks to Charlotte, you can download here.

    Etta Scollo - Amico Pierre (Italian)
The Italian version of her song that finished 7th in the 1994 Austrian national final. I found this on an old CD whilst going through my collection today. You can download it here.

There has been a request for a studio version of this runner-up from the Spanish final of 2001. The band released 2 versions under the name Karma and you can download both the Original and Latin versions.

    Nightlight Duo - Just see kantrilugu (Estonian & English remix)
The Estonian version of the Eurolaul runner-up of 2002, Another country song, was the favourite with the Estonian public but it was Swedish singer (Anna) Sahlene who the juries sent to represent Estonia on home territory.     Zee Asha - Never in a million years (6 versions)
Strongly rumoured to have won the 2002 Song for Europe radio semi-final before it was unceremoniously removed from the line-up due to an earlier release of the song in Hungary of all places!     Michèle Torr - Lui (2nd version)
Michèle submitted a number of songs to both the French and Luxembourg internal finals of 1966 and ended up representing Luxembourg that year, returning for Monaco 11 years later. This is one of the songs in the internal Luxembourg selection of 1966. Was Michèle pre-selected to represent Luxembourg in 1966 in the same way artists for 1967, 1972, 1973 and 1974 have confirmed to be as she did submit quite a number of songs? Anyhow, a later recording of this song can be downloaded here.

Originally submitted to the 1978 Israeli Song Contest performed by Habibi, who would go on to represent Israel in 1981. Although the song was not shortlisted, it was submitted a year later and was. However, due to a variety of circumstances, Habibi turned it down and the rest, as they say, is history. This was played for the very first time on Israeli radio at the beginning of September.     Matt Monroe - Ev'rybody falls in love with someone
Winner of the first British Song Contest in 1956 but too late for the inaugural contest! Matt Monroe did not sing it at the contest but this was his first-ever single release in late 1956. My thanks to Alan for tracking this down from a 1990s CD compilation. You can download it here.

A Paul Curtis composition from the 1980 Song for Europe (He really was the UK's answer to Ralph Siegel!!) this does not appear to have got a release, however, thanks to David up in Edinburgh, who has shared this following winning it on e-bay. Download it here.

    Ani Lorak - Chekaju/Untie me
Complicated this! Had Ani Lorak finished winner of the 2005 Ukranian final with Another Little Shot, this song would have been the Ukranian entry as Another Little Shot was publicly played a few days before the eurovision rules permit. Download both the Ukranian and English versions, released on an album last year.

    Sonja Biskop - Should I run, should I hide (Demo)
It's a little different to the CD promo version but, admittedly, the differences are quite subtle. This finished 7th in the 2004 Finnish final and and you can download it here.

Did not qualify for the Greek final in 1991 and went on to become a big hit in Greece. Kostas would eventually get his opportunity 3 years later with Diri Diri and he was the composer of the 1996 entry for Marianna Efstratiou. He probably would have been the composer of the winning Eurovision song for Greece in 2005 had his composition The light in our soul not been disqualified.     Majbritt Persson - Säg varför
In 1963 this song was performed twice in the MF: once by Anna-Lena Löfgren and once by Ann-Louise Hanson. Majbritt recorded the song and you can download it here. Not sure if either of the other two artists ever recorded it. Perhaps somebody knows? My thanks to Frank for this one.

    Alice Babs - Hong-Kong-sång
A cover version of one of the 1963 MF songs being sought by the singer who sang Sweden's first-ever song at eurovision in 1958. You can download the song here. But does anyone have either live or studio versions by the singers from the final? Two versions were performed: one by Gerd Söderberg and the other by Charlie Norman, Roffe Berg & Hasse Burman.     Zanamari Lalic - Kako Da Te Volim (Makro Polo remix)

    Luminita Anghel - Vreau (Romanian)
This finished joint 5th in the 2002 Romanian final, where it was performed in English under the title All I want. Luminita clearly recorded a Romanian version which was performed, as in mimed to, during the earlier previews aired by Romanian TV. Did she ever release this or the English version?     Melody Mixers - Harlekin og Columbine
Thanks to Charlotte, a number of the 1950s and 1960s Danish pre-selection songs are emerging, some of which, like this one, have not been commonly available. Charlotte has been sharing these on the National Finals Yahoo Group in batches. Charlotte is also the webmaster of Hot Eyes, an excellent resource in eurovision season time for those latest songs.     Arja Koriseva - Kaiken kanssas jakaisin (Finnish Singback)
Arja never got around to recording the Finnish version of 'Til the end of time which finished in joint 10th place in the 2004 Finnish final. The English demo version widely available features Pernilla Wahlgren's vocals. Juha indicates that Mrs Koriseva got the right old hump after a less than enthusiastic reception at, as he puts it, "one of her gigs." Consequently, this may be the first ever karaoke version to exist without the full vocal! You can download the Finnish Singback version here although how you'd singback to it without knowing the new Finnish lyric, God alone knows!

    Nek - Laura No Está (Spanish album version)
Participant in Sanremo 1997 and a massive hit for this good-looking blue-eyed singer. Surprising he did not make top three that year. It really should have been between him and Anna Oxa for that top spot. The Spanish album version can be downloaded here.

Luminita was 6th in the 2000 Romanian final and later included a version of her national final song on her album. We are also looking for a good version of her 2002 national final song, which now has the distinction of being the oldest lost song on the website. In the meantime, download her 2000 song here.

    Laura Vlasblom - Gouden Bergen
Runner-up in the 1992 Dutch final and sung by one of the Frizzle Sizzle girls from the 1986 contest. This would have been a much better choice to go to Malmo in my view. The demo can be downloaded it here.

    Lewis & Simon - Let's Give It A Try
From the 2003 Dutch semis and not available at the time in a full studio version, I believe I am right in saying that this later turned up as part of the theme music for a Portuguese TV programme. This, thanks to Rick's efforts sometime back, can be heard here.

    Torhild Nigar - Hjembygd/Home Valley
Torhild was placed 7th in the Norwegian final of 1992 and released the song in English. A few years ago, she released a new arrangement of the song in Norwegian as lead vocalist of Floweryard. Torhild composed Norway's entry of 1996 and Winds of the Northern Sea, which finished runner-up in the 1998 Norwegian final. If anyone knows of a version recorded in Norwegian in 1992, I'd like to hear from them. You can, in the meantime, download the English and recent Norwegian versions.

7th in the 1997 Hungarian final, the single and extended versions of this national final song are now available.

Runner-up in the Belgian final of 1995 and better than the song they actually sent. The French and Instrumental versions were released on a CD and are shared.

It was always intended for Brita Borg to sing the Swedish song in 1959 but she did not sing them in the national final. Siw Malmkvist sang "Augustin" in MF and she seemingly recorded this song in Swedish, German, Spanish, Norwegian and Danish.     Kukumiku - Irradaka
10th in the 1999 French final and performed in the Basque language. This was released by the band on a CD album called "Arbasoak", performed entirely in the Basque language, and you can download the track here.

Jens performed the song in the first-ever Norwegian selection in 1960 during the semi-final. The song was then performed by Per Müller in the final, where it finished in 6th and last place. The song was released with another song Jens performed in the semi-final and it is shared here.

    Doris Dragovic - Dajem ti srce
This was 3rd in the Dora of 1992, the year before Croatia could register for the contest. Interestingly the top three places were taken by artists who would go on to represent Croatia. Doris had previously represented Yugoslavia in 1986. You can download the song here.

    Inger Lindbladh - Samma stjärna lysa för oss två
The recorded version of "Lilla stjarna" with its original lyric not favoured by Alice Babs when she sang Sweden's first-ever eurovision entry. Download the song here.

    Massimo Ranieri - Ti Parlero D'Amore
In 1997, Italy used the Sanremo competition to select what may be its final eurovision entry ever ... hopefully not! Massimo represented italy in 1971 and 1973 and participated in the final but did not finish in the top three (the only placings to be announced).     Apostolos Psichramis - All right
This song was supposedly the second choice to represent Greece in 2004 when Sakis was appointed, very much at the last minute. Apostolos was the winner of the Pop Idol style competion looking for a singer to sing for Greece and he is supposed to have performed this on the TV show which showcased the Greek entry. It has now been made available thanks to Maimouditsa. you can download the song here.

    Marianne Mendt - Musik (Preview version)
The first studio version, as featured in the 1971 previews, was never commercially released until 2006 when Marianne released "The Very Best of Marianne Mendt." It is not credited as a different version but it is featuring a different vocal, although the differences are very subtle, and it does include backing vocals in the chorus, which did not appear on the single or during her performance in Dublin.     Severine - Tu ne vois jamais le vent
One of the six songs presented to TVM to decide Monaco's entry in 1971 along with "Viens" (also presented to the French internal selection), "Manege" and "Un banc, un arbre, une rue" (the ultimate winner of ESC 1971).
