My Blog
A few Maltesers before dinner!!
I was full of good intentions when I got up today a little bleary-eyed, having seen the New Year in round friends watching "Fear of Fanny" on BBC2 about the life of Sixties TV cook Fanny Craddock. Fab if a little sad but I digress... Today I wanted to bring you a brief personal review of the Albanian final but I could not summon up the energy to watch it which does not auger well for this blog but ah well! ESC Malta to the rescue! Clips were made available of all 16 songs today, so here is my uninformed review. You can download the songs here.
01. Places To Go - Tarcisio Barbara
American wannabe soft rock. Not bad but forgetable.
02. Night Wish - Annabelle Debono
Disney-esque and plenty of potential for missed notes. Can't wait!
03. My Love - Isabelle
Laboured vocals belched out over a sub-standard ballad.
04. Whenever - Kevin Borg
Another non-descript boring ballad.
05. L-Imhabba Ghamja - Claudia Faniello
Fabrizio's not so little sister. The song has a faint middle-eastern vibe with a pounding disco beat. A contender.
06. All About A Life - Pamela Bezzina
Tries to be anthemic but fails. All the notes are there. Just not in the right order.
07. Look At Me - Julie Pomorsky
Little girl voice and a dated, boring ballad that just seems to go on.
08. Forever Mine - William Mangion
Boring and yet another ballad. He won't be returning to the ESC stage this year.
09. Little Islands In Your Heart
-
Daniela
Crap title, crap song. Sounds like something off a kiddie's programme. Tip to finish last.
10. She Gives Me Wings - Klinsmann
Starts off well enough. Fresh, fast-moving but ends up going nowhere. Not a contender but could make the final.
11. Roller Coaster Ride - Rosman Pace
Blimey! This is bad. Next?
12. Starlight - Trilogy
The only one I can actually remember easily. Very catchy. The likely winner methinks.
13. As Long As You Know - SCAR (Konrad Pule)
Another good one. Probably the most modern one on offer but that's not saying much! Can't see this being selected though but it ought to make the final.
14. Vertigo - Olivia Lewis
I guess this must be the favourite as she's finished 2nd in the last 3 contests. I've a feeling she'll end in this place again. The song is one of the stronger ones but it's a bit fussy and overblown. Probably comes with a dead camp routine but woe betide if this includes lifts.
15. Ice Queen - Julia Grima
And now the first of the two songs to qualify from the earlier talent show. It's pretty awful with one of the weakest voices.
16. Unite - Mauro Kitcher
And the second one is no better. He has such a heavy accent that the chorus sounds like "We all long for piss." And much will be taken, I'm sure!!
So my prediction for the
Top 3
is:
1. Trilogy - Starlight
2. Olivia Lewis - Vertigo
3. Claudia Faniello - L'imhabba ghamja
Feel free to add your views. Thanks, once again, to esc-malta for making these songs available.
Keep an eye out here!!
Thinking of doing a blog in the New Year in the run-up to Eurovision. Watch this space!! Hoping to do this in a style where you can leave your own comments too!!
